Blue Heron Nature Preserve, Georgia
While the Littles still love a good playground, they are capable of larger adventures. That has led me to seek out some different outdoor areas when we are visiting my parents’ house in Atlanta. The Blue Heron Nature Preserve, off of Roswell Road, is the perfect in-town place to stretch your legs and give your kids some hiking practice.

This narrow park has a series of short hiking trails all boasting different ecology and landscapes. We made it through much of the park in just a few hours.
We stopped by the community garden, where there were plenty of people working. The Littles were each offered a fresh strawberry to taste in exchange for doing a little weeding.

Our favorite trail though was up the stone stairs nestled between two apartment complexes. It gives way to a beautiful waterfall and boardwalk path. There was plenty to explore here. The nature preserve boasts lovely art displays as well as scenic views.

We were hunting down a few geocaches in the area as well. They turned out to be micros (meaning very very small) and thus quite difficult to find. We ended up finding two of them and feeling pretty proud of ourselves!

I highly recommend stopping by the Blue Heron Nature Preserve if you are looking for a little dose of nature close to home.
