(Here is a link to Tanbayama Village which we found mildly helpful)
Tanbayama Village is about 90 min away from Yakota, AFB by car. Tickets are ¥500 for adults ¥200 for kids. There are countless things to do along the way including hiking, small museums, dams, and floating bridges.

Our roller slide journey began on a scorching August day, amid the lush nature and steep mountains of Tanbayama Village. But the real magic was the newfound camaraderie with Japanese kids from a scout troop, eager to share the thrill of the slide with us. The children’s English was excellent, in comparison to our nonexistent Japanese and they invited us to join them going down the slide.
Strapping on our gloves (yours to keep!) and borrowing mats for the ride, we eagerly climbed the stairs to the starting point. At first glance, the slide might seem lightning-fast, but when the kids rode solo, it was a leisurely glide. The real excitement? Riding as a group, where the speed soared! We couldn’t get enough of the thrilling twists and turns!
Laughter filled the air as we soared down the roller slide, our cheers echoing through the village. And while the Middle Little got a bit of slide burn (ouch!), it didn’t stop us from queuing up for more rides. We lost count of how many times we whizzed down, each moment better than the last. Did Jeff sneak in a few extra rounds? We’ll never tell! (The record number of runs for one person is 50!)

What sets this roller slide adventure apart is its authenticity. Tanbayama Village isn’t a crowded tourist spot, and you’ll immerse yourself in local fun. It’s like discovering a secret treasure only known to the villagers. With the manager’s English-speaking assistance, you’ll have everything you need for a seamless and joyful experience!
So, if you find yourself in Yamanashi, make a beeline for Tanbayama Village and dive headfirst into Japan’s longest roller slide! (That’s what we were told at least!) A non-stop rollercoaster of nature, friendship, and heart-pounding fun awaits you. It’s an adventure that will leave you with beaming smiles and cherished memories for years!
