Summer is here, and we’re gearing up for another exciting season of travel! Fresh off a short trip to Korea, where I found myself scrambling to pack and missing some key items.
This time, we’re also heading out on game drives, so we’re limited in luggage size and weight. As always, one of the most common questions I get is, “What do you pack to keep the kids entertained?” Here’s our list of essentials for kids’ entertainment on long-haul flights, perfect for ages 12, 10, and 7.
1. iClever Wireless Headphones

These iClever wireless headphones have been our favorite for a while. They hold up great, keep a charge, and the kids find them comfortable. We’ll be loading up their tablets with audiobooks, music, and podcasts. These headphones are also perfect for long car rides and flights. They have built-in volume limiting but still deliver impressive sound quality. Plus, they have jacks for plugging into airplane entertainment systems. iClever has a whole line of travel headphones so you are sure to find something that works for you.
I’ll also have my standard collection of travel electronics, cords, and batteries.

2. Lightweight Travel Games
We love bringing games along, but this time, we’re focusing on lightweight options. Here’s what made the cut:
- Magnetic Chess: Perfect for playing on the go without losing pieces.
- Travel Othello: A great find at Donki in Japan. (I found this one on Amazon, not exactly what we have, but good enough!)
- Math Games with Bad Drawings: The Ultimate Game Collection: Fun and educational, plus super small.
- A Deck of Cards: Versatile and compact for various games.
- Flux. We own a few versions, so we will pick our favorite to take along with us. This game is always changing and accommodates a bunch of people, perfect for travel.
If none of these seem to fit your current family you can check out our round-up of travel friendly entertainment.
3. Kid’s Kindles
Each child has their own Kindle, which is just the best for travel. They’re compact and easy to carry, and I can load them up with graphic novels and books from the library. This keeps the kids engaged and encourages summer reading. We have the 2022 kids version and love it.
4. Creative Supplies

To keep their creative juices flowing, each child is taking:
- One drawing notebook
- A watercolor set
- Craft. Each kid loves a different craft and I always try to keep knitting or crochet or needlework on hand so everyone has something to keep their hands busy. (We love these wooble kits to get you started.}
- One workbook: We’re using Summer Brainquest again this summer. Two of my kids finished their Brainquest earlier in the year, so we’ve moved on to Kids Summer Academy for them.

5. Cozy Comfort Items

We are also taking these adorable ScoZen Lifestyle head pillows that look like little animals. I found them at Donki, but they’re also available on Amazon. They’re compact, comfortable, and super cute, perfect for keeping the kids cozy on flights.
