Golden Week 2024 was one for the books. We packed in jungles, dolphins, bamboo rafting, city views, massages, and more across Miri, Kuching, and Kuala Lumpur—all with three kids in tow. Here’s our full itinerary, plus what worked (and didn’t), how we booked it, and what we’d do differently next time.

This post links to our three-part series, where you can find detailed breakdowns of each leg of the trip:

Trip Snapshot

  • When: Late April to Early May, 2024 (Golden Week)
  • Where: Miri, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur
  • Who: Two adults, three kids
  • How: Flights on AirAsia + Grab/tour guides for local transport

Who We Booked With

  • Kuching & Sarawak Adventures: Borneo Adventures
Friendly, organized, and perfect for families. We booked everything through them—including Bako National Park, dolphin cruises, and bamboo rafting with Valentino.
  • Bamboo Rafting Guide: Valentino (runs his own operation + works with Borneo Adventures)
Local legend! His family led our jungle float and cooked us lunch in the rainforest.
  • Kuala Lumpur Day Tour: Skyline Holidays Travel and Tours
We found them via Viator and had a great experience. Our driver was flexible, kind, and knew all the best spots.
