A Taste of Space at ESA’s Space Expo

The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Space Expo visitor center in Noordwijk is an impressive sight. There’s no comparison to the Kennedy Space Center or Johnson Space Center – both in America – but Space Expo is a great activity for families. The visitor center is co-located with ESA’s facility, nestled up against North Sea dunes. …

Delft Blue Days at Royal Delft

One fall weekend each year, Royal Delft opens its doors to the community for Delft Blue Days. During Delft Blue Days admission to the Royal Delft factory is free (typically €13.50) and they host a variety of activities for adults and children. My dear friend Julia made sure we had it on our calendars this …

Beilstein, Germany: Girls Wine Weekend (with a 1 year old)

My friend Karen took a trip with her aunt last year to the tiny town of Beilstein, Germany. As soon as she got back she started hounding us all that we needed to make a girls trip happen. We hemmed and hawed, I wasn’t sure if my little little would still be breast feeding. Finally, …

Budapest, Hungary with Kids

This post contains affiliate links.  We loved Budapest and were completely charmed by the city. This is one of those places that we did almost nothing touristy and instead stuck to local kids activities. As a result we had an amazing trip, but can’t wait to go back and see more. You will find plenty …

Celebrating The Holidays at a Garden Store

Every year my Facebook feed fills with images of Christmas in America making me a tad homesick. Sure, our days are full of Sinterklaas festivities and we visit Christmas Markets and drink Gluhwein. It is all great, but it is not the same as back in the U.S. Luckily, I’ve found a place that fills …

A day trip to Sinaia, Romania

Therme Bucharest Wellness Retreat with Kids

We initially wrote off Therme Bucharest as just another pool. We figured that after the spa time in Budapest we would be done with swimming but as we grew weary of being in the city of Bucharest Therme popped back onto our radar as a family retreat. It was fun but we had some disappointments. …

Bucharest, Romania with Kids

I was sitting here trying to digest my Romania trip and almost decided not to write about it at all under the old adage “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” The thing is Bucharest showered us with beauty. We were there at the height of the leaf change …

Searching for Street Art in Ghent

Ghent has a vibrant street art scene. As it turns out viewing street art is an incredibly family-friendly activity. You can be as loud as you want and viewing street art inherently involves a bit of seek-and-find and the subjects are usually quite amusing. We started our Ghent street art viewing on foot on Graffiti …

The Ko’Olina Lagoons make the perfect water playgr The Ko’Olina Lagoons make the perfect water playground. The wave breaks create a calm area for ocean swimming with a sandy bottom. We like to put floats in on one side and make our way across the lagoon. The walking path along the lagoons is perfect for taking a stroll.

The only downside is the parking situation and the lack of affordable public parking.

The Bullship race was a great way to kick off race sailing. This for fun race does not take its self seriously. You compete for awards focused on being in the middle of the pack, coming in last and spending the most time capsized.

Thanks to the @pearlharboryachtclub for welcoming the boys and giving them a place to try new things and find an amazing group of friends.

We were lucky enough to come across this group of jellyfish. The current and tides bring them into the bay. The narrow opening makes it difficult to leave, so they end up in a smack!

From the high decks of the ship it looks like a cloud or discoloration in the water. When you get closer to the waterline - from the skiff or kayak - it’s a whole new world.

Only about 30% of summer visitors get to see Denali fully out, and today we got one of those rare, crystal-clear views…from the Alaska Railroad.

At 20,310 feet, Denali is the tallest mountain in North America. Today it looked more like a painting than a mountain.

Watching her appear outside the train window is one of those moments we’ll be talking about for a long time.
