An Update.

Three years in Europe flew by. We grew from a family of four to a family of five. We traded in cars for bikes. We learned to appreciate a slower life. Now, we’ve headed back to the U.S. This was an expected move, but honestly one we have been dreading. We fell in love with The Netherlands despite its dreary weather.

That being said, we are always up for an adventure. 

I took a little break from writing to help the family focus on moving back. We’ve faced more hiccups in this move than in any of our previous ones. A hurricane hit our area just as we were house hunting. Jeff was evacuated from his work. Our household goods were caught up in customs and we began homeschooling as a bridge from our beloved Dutch school. I would love to tell you that we’ve settled into a routine, but we haven’t quite yet.

We’ve been back in the U.S. for a month now and I’ve finally got my head above the water. I spent some time reconnecting with friends. We bought a minivan. We bought a house. We started our home school curriculum.

I have an entire summer of travel still to share with you. We took some of our most well planned trips in our final months, like a glorious European victory lap. We spent two weeks in Germany and Austria, riding every Alpine rollercoaster in sight. We also drove around Northern England as a family, fantasizing about the amazing opportunity we had been given by moving to Europe. We sailed back from Europe on the Queen Mary II, me sponsored by Cunard and Jeff guest lecturing as an aviation expert on the boat. I jumped head first into exploring everything Atlanta has to offer for families.

The next few months may feel a bit disjointed. I have old trips to share packed with great playgrounds and magical experiences. I also want to bring you into the fold as we nest a bit in our new house and incorporate the lessons on simplicity and quality products that we learned in Europe. I also want to give you a glimpse of our homeschool life. 

If you follow me on Instagram you’re already getting a peak at what our reintegration looks like, but I’m looking forward to putting it all into words.

Each season brings something new for our family. This is going to be a season of integration as we bridge the gap between our two worlds – the Europe of the past three years and the America of the next three. I’m looking forward to slowing down and making a home and also encouraging people to find great travel opportunities wherever they are. I look forward to sharing every bit of it with you.
