Shaker Village, Kentucky

This is maybe my most favorite place to take the kids. I used to go here when I was little and it was an absolute dream to take my kids to visit last summer.

Sloppy Floyd State Park, Georgia

The Marble Mines hike at Sloppy Floyd State Park has been on our must do list for a while. It is a relatively easy but uphill hike to the mouth of a cave, with a pond and waterfall. There are plenty more extensive trails in the area to explore as well.  Sloppy Floyd turned out …

See Rock City. A Georgia Must.

After miles of passing red barns painted with “See Rock City” and the littles yelling out “Let’s go to Rock City” we relented and drove up Lookout Mountain to Rock City Gardens.  Jeff and I had visited a decade earlier before having kids. Rock City Gardens had also been a staple of my all-girls spend …

Blue Heron Nature Preserve, Georgia

While the Littles still love a good playground, they are capable of larger adventures. That has led me to seek out some different outdoor areas when we are visiting my parents’ house in Atlanta. The Blue Heron Nature Preserve, off of Roswell Road, is the perfect in-town place to stretch your legs and give your …

Fort Pulaski National Monument with Kids

Fort Pulaski National Monument is a must see if you are in the Savannah, GA area. It was high on our list of coastal forts to visit. Fort Pulaski was built to protect the USA from overseas invaders, but the Civil War demonstrated that new technology had overcome these mason fortresses. Fort Pulaski also became …

Fort Morris, GA with Kids

One of my goals while we were in Florida was to explore many of the coastal forts with the kids. Fort Morris, located outside of Savannah, was part of that tour. The idea of a fort grabs the boys’ interest and it is a great jumping off point for exploring some of the darker parts …

We like to put floats in on one side and make our way across the lagoon. The walking path along the lagoons is perfect for taking a stroll.

The only downside is the parking situation and the lack of affordable public parking.

The Bullship race was a great way to kick off race sailing. This for fun race does not take its self seriously. You compete for awards focused on being in the middle of the pack, coming in last and spending the most time capsized.

Thanks to the @pearlharboryachtclub for welcoming the boys and giving them a place to try new things and find an amazing group of friends.

We were lucky enough to come across this group of jellyfish. The current and tides bring them into the bay. The narrow opening makes it difficult to leave, so they end up in a smack!

From the high decks of the ship it looks like a cloud or discoloration in the water. When you get closer to the waterline - from the skiff or kayak - it’s a whole new world.

We spent a lot of time in the wheelhouse with Captain Andy, even after years of sailing these waters, his breath was taken away.

Watching her appear outside the train window is one of those moments we’ll be talking about for a long time.
