Packing Cubes: A Must for Family Travel

I used to be a terrible packer! Seriously. I can remember, before kids, I would haul a huge rolling suitcase stuffed with things I needed. Now, with three kids in tow I’ve changed my packing habits to minimize what we bring along. I’m also completely obsessed with packing cubes. Thanks to some handy packing cubes …

Easy Rock Painting with Kids

Rock painting seamlessly blended together my love of all things crafting with my love of exploring wherever we find ourselves. It is a treasure hunt that also teaches the value of being kind to others. It also seemed manageable. It was something we could all do. That was all I needed to collect all the …

An Update.

Three years in Europe flew by. We grew from a family of four to a family of five. We traded in cars for bikes. We learned to appreciate a slower life. Now, we’ve headed back to the U.S. This was an expected move, but honestly one we have been dreading. We fell in love with The …

Neuschwanstein Castle is often called Cinderella’s Castle. Neuschwanstein is surely one of the most beautiful castles I’ve seen, however we had to fight the crowds to get these stunning views. We like to put floats in on one side and make our way across the lagoon. The walking path along the lagoons is perfect for taking a stroll.

The only downside is the parking situation and the lack of affordable public parking.

The Bullship race was a great way to kick off race sailing. This for fun race does not take its self seriously. You compete for awards focused on being in the middle of the pack, coming in last and spending the most time capsized.

Thanks to the @pearlharboryachtclub for welcoming the boys and giving them a place to try new things and find an amazing group of friends.

We were lucky enough to come across this group of jellyfish. The current and tides bring them into the bay. The narrow opening makes it difficult to leave, so they end up in a smack!

From the high decks of the ship it looks like a cloud or discoloration in the water. When you get closer to the waterline - from the skiff or kayak - it’s a whole new world.

We spent a lot of time in the wheelhouse with Captain Andy, even after years of sailing these waters, his breath was taken away.

The smaller ship meant we could get into some of these small bays and sail past this landscape slowly and close to waterline.

Only about 30% of summer visitors get to see Denali fully out, and today we got one of those rare, crystal-clear views…from the Alaska Railroad.

At 20,310 feet, Denali is the tallest mountain in North America. Today it looked more like a painting than a mountain.

Watching her appear outside the train window is one of those moments we’ll be talking about for a long time.
