Roussillon, France: The Orange City

Roussillon, France is one of the most picturesque towns in the Luberon mountains. We ended up in Roussillon on our Provence trip because it combined a visit to a cute town with a factory tour and a nature hike. That’s the perfect combo for our family – town for mom, factory for dad and a …

Exploring Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, France in Winter

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is a perfect picturesque stop. We were drawn in by the promise of a river that appears from a rock face and stayed to enjoy a lovely river walk, a paper mill and small town exploration. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse has several paid public lots. In February parking was no problem, but I’m sure in high season …

Hoek-Van-Holland Beach

It is February and we are still firmly settled into the winter doldrums  in The Netherlands. Yet, on a sunny Sunday you can find nearly half the country out on the beaches, dressed in winter coats going for a walk.  I guess we’ve been here long enough to feel like it was a necessary because …

Ulster American Folk Park in Northern Ireland

We’ve visited quite a few open air parks on our travels. We like to put floats in on one side and make our way across the lagoon. The walking path along the lagoons is perfect for taking a stroll.

The only downside is the parking situation and the lack of affordable public parking.

The Bullship race was a great way to kick off race sailing. This for fun race does not take its self seriously. You compete for awards focused on being in the middle of the pack, coming in last and spending the most time capsized.

Thanks to the @pearlharboryachtclub for welcoming the boys and giving them a place to try new things and find an amazing group of friends.

We were lucky enough to come across this group of jellyfish. The current and tides bring them into the bay. The narrow opening makes it difficult to leave, so they end up in a smack!

We spent a lot of time in the wheelhouse with Captain Andy, even after years of sailing these waters, his breath was taken away.

The smaller ship meant we could get into some of these small bays and sail past this landscape slowly and close to waterline.

Only about 30% of summer visitors get to see Denali fully out, and today we got one of those rare, crystal-clear views…from the Alaska Railroad.

At 20,310 feet, Denali is the tallest mountain in North America. Today it looked more like a painting than a mountain.

Watching her appear outside the train window is one of those moments we’ll be talking about for a long time.
