Apenheul Zoo: Where the Monkeys Roam Free

On a rainy Wednesday morning while my sister was visiting, I decided that when the kids got out of school (Wednesdays are half days) we would surprise them by driving to Apenheul in Apeldoorn. It had been on our Netherlands “to visit” list and today seemed like the day. When you translate the Apenheul webpage …

The Incredible Machines of Nantes

This was one of those incredible finds that we almost passed by but turned out to be a full day adventure with the kids.  The number one reason we thought about skipping this attraction was its location in a city. We were so nervous about driving through the city in the RV. It was touch …

Spring in Delft, Netherlands

My Facebook feed is full of last day of school pictures from my U.S. friends but here in the Netherlands it is business as usual. Our Summer holiday doesn’t start until mid-July. The temperatures this year have been fluctuating between ‘grab your summer coat’ and ‘run through the sprinklers’ for the last few days. Meanwhile …

I recently found out that the World’s Best Children’s Museum is in the Netherlands. About an hour drive from us, GeoFort  has turned an old fort into a museum on maps and navigation. GeoFort blends indoor and outdoor exhibits into the perfect outing for kids of all ages. It is also part of the Museumkart program, …

Fort La Latte in Brittany France

We are always up to visit a good castle. Little did we know when we set our sights on Fort La Latte that we would be stepping into our children’s dream castle. Fort La Latte has two draw bridges, secret passageways and plenty of space to run around — the perfect stop on our RV adventure. As …

Exploring Mont Saint-Michel with Kids

Mont Saint-Michel, a historic fortified town and monastery in northeastern France, has been on our Europe bucket-list since we arrived. This iconic island is something I felt had to be seen. I also had large expectations about its grandeur. I was right that seeing and exploring the island was worth the trip, but it took up much …

We like to put floats in on one side and make our way across the lagoon. The walking path along the lagoons is perfect for taking a stroll.

The only downside is the parking situation and the lack of affordable public parking.

The Bullship race was a great way to kick off race sailing. This for fun race does not take its self seriously. You compete for awards focused on being in the middle of the pack, coming in last and spending the most time capsized.

Thanks to the @pearlharboryachtclub for welcoming the boys and giving them a place to try new things and find an amazing group of friends.

We were lucky enough to come across this group of jellyfish. The current and tides bring them into the bay. The narrow opening makes it difficult to leave, so they end up in a smack!

Only about 30% of summer visitors get to see Denali fully out, and today we got one of those rare, crystal-clear views…from the Alaska Railroad.

Watching her appear outside the train window is one of those moments we’ll be talking about for a long time.
