Thrilling Family Adventures: Sledding in Rocky Mountain National Park

Going sledding in Rocky Mountain National Park can be a thrilling and unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. The park offers a designed sledding area in Hidden Valley, which is located near the Beaver Meadows Entrance on Highway 36.

When planning a sledding trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, it’s important to pack appropriately for the weather conditions. During the winter months, temperatures can drop significantly, and snowstorms can occur at any time. Therefore, it’s recommended to bring warm, waterproof clothing, gloves, and hats, as well as extra layers for added warmth.

In addition to warm clothing, visitors should bring their own sleds or other sledding equipment. There are no rental facilities within the park, so it’s important to bring your own sleds or purchase them from nearby sporting goods stores. Sleds with metal runners are prohibited.

Sledding is typically available from mid-November to mid-April, depending on weather conditions. However, it’s important to note that park rangers may close certain areas of the park due to inclement weather or other safety concerns. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to check the park’s website or call ahead before heading out on your sledding adventure.

Finally, when sledding in Rocky Mountain National Park, visitors should always follow park rules and regulations to ensure their safety and the preservation of the natural environment. This includes staying on designated trails and avoiding sledding in areas that are closed to the public. Additionally, visitors should be aware of potential hazards such as trees, rocks, and other obstacles that may be hidden beneath the snow. By following these guidelines, visitors can enjoy a safe and memorable sledding experience in one of the most beautiful national parks in the country.

The park typically has volunteered at Hidden Valley to monitor the skiing and contact rangers if there is any trouble. They are also restrooms with running water available.
